MOTION NO. 8

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

That the Chief Executive erect Fairtrade Banners on the Council offices in Clondalkin following the announcement of Clondalkin becoming a Fairtrade town.

REPORT: 

Reports on previous Fairtrade motions to the Clondalkin ACM, still apply.  As agreed with the Area Committee the Council undertook the production of stickers for distribution to those retailers and other organisations taking part in the Fairtrade initiative. The Council building was made available for an event to mark Fairtrade forthnight.

IT should be noted that there are a number of Clondalkin Fairtrade banners erected in the foyer of the civic offices in Clondalkin which was agreed as part of the events to mark the Fairtrade forthnight. However, as stated previously consideration will be given to how to appropriately promote this in consultation with the Chamber of Commerce and Tidy Towns Committee and in the context of the Village Improvement Scheme for the village. This will take place as part of the on-going village improvement scheme.
