QUESTION NO.25

QUESTION: Councillor B. Ferron

"To ask the Chief Executive if the public realm department can please arrange to have the Graffiti removed from the Priory Wall in Tallaght Village?"

REPLY:

When a complaint is received about graffiti, the location concerned is inspected by the Litter Warden for the area to determine if the graffiti is on public or private property.

If the graffiti is on private property, the owner of the property is written to and requested to remove it as soon as possible.  If the graffiti is on public property, it is referred to the Probation Services for removal. Depending on the type of surface the contractor will endeavour to remove it by the use of chemicals or by painting over it.

In a limited number of circumstances, it may not be possible to remove the graffiti owing to difficulties accessing sites.

Should the graffiti be on utility boxes belonging to utility companies, the company concerned is contacted and requested to remove the graffiti.

Notwithstanding in the past graffiti at this location was removed as a good will gesture, The Priory in Tallaght is private property and as such the land owners should make their own arrangements to have the graffiti removed.
