QUESTION NO. 25
QUESTION: Councillor P. Foley
"To ask the Chief Executive that it was indicated at last month that there was a proposed fix for the recent flooding in Tymon Park which flooded the public car park for the park, the car park of St. Judes GAA and Faughs. Can an update be provided on this fix?"
REPLY:
There are two related issues that contribute to the flooding in Tymon Park. One is the connection between the two lakes that becomes blocked and causes one of the ponds to overflow. This has been sorted in the short term by the removal of the material that caused the blockage. The longer term plan is to re-engineer the connecting culvert to provide a larger connection that will not become blocked as easily.
The second issue relates to the connection between Tymon Park and the Spawell Centre. A survey of the drainage system in this area is due to be undertaken shortly in co-operation with the Receiver and property manager for the complex. The results of this survey will inform the decisions that need to be taken to eliminate whatever problem it is that may have caused the flooding before and after Christmas 2014.
