The meeting was Chaired by Cllr D Richardson who welcomed and invited those present to introduce themselves. F Nevin also advised that an additional sectoral nomination to the SPC was pending from the ETB.
Headed Item 1: Presentation on Arts & Libraries It was noted that the presentation had been given to the elected members previously and agreed that it would be made available to the non-elected members and briefings given if required.
Headed Item 2 - 1916 Commemoration update. E Leech presented the report & outlined the work of the Commemoration Committee. She emphasized that the Committee were at the planning stage and the need for crossover with the SPC. Following discussion to which all present contributed the report was noted and it was agreed that the members would make themselves available to the Committee as required for consultation. Cllr Bonner expressed a particular interest in the education/schools elements of the events.
Headed Item 3 – Arts Grants O Scannell presented the report & outlined the current scheme/procedure. Following discussion to which all present contributed it was agreed that a working group of the SPC would meet on Thursday 12th February at 8.15 to review the existing Arts grants scheme and, if required, recommend a varied scheme to the March Council meeting.
Headed Item 4 - Seachtain na Gaeilge Planning & Programme E. Leech presented the report & outlined the programme for the events 11-17th March. Following discussion to which all present contributed the report was noted. In the context of the discussion under Item 2 the importance of the week in 2016 was noted. The Oireachtas event planned in South Dublin County this year was also noted.
Headed Item 5 - Red Line Book Festival Report D Fagan presented the report & outlined the work of the organising Committee. As with Item 1 she emphasized that the Committee were at the planning stage and requested input from the SPC members. Following discussion to which all present contributed the report was noted and it was agreed that Domitilla attend the May meeting of the SPC to discuss the draft programme. F. Nevin outlined the importance of the events discussed at the meeting for tourism in the County and confirmed that the emerging draft tourism strategy for the County is for discussion at the Economic, Enterprise & Tourism SPC on 11th February. Meeting concluded at 7.15 pm.
