QUESTION NO. 20
QUESTION: Councillor K. Mahon
To ask the Chief Executive, based on the recommended number of tenants per unit for social housing, can he please provide a breakdown of the number of units, by number of bedrooms, that could be currently deemed as above capacity or overcrowded?
Where the occupancy level is above the recommended level, can the CE also provide a breakdown, along similar lines, as to how many of these units currently house additional children and how many currently house additional adults?
REPLY:
There the Council has 9,003 dwellings in stock. The Council's Allocation Scheme sets out criteria for accommodation size necessary for family composition as shown in the table below.
Single person or Couple | 1 bedroom |
Single Parent or Couple with 1 child or 2 children of the same gender | 2 bedroom |
Single Parent or Couple with 3 or 4 children | 3 bedroom |
Single Parent or Couple with 5 or more children | 4 bedroom |
The Council has currently 768 applications from families on the list to transfer to alternative accommodation. There are 238 of the 768 in overcrowded accommodation as follows:-
Accommodation size required | Nos. on Transfer List |
2 Bedroom | 13 |
3 Bedroom | 178 |
4 Bedroom | 47 |
It is not possible to provide the breakdown based on numbers of adults or children without undertaking a large scale manual analysis of all the files in question. The resources are not available to undertake this work at this time.
