QUESTION NO. 23

QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

To ask the Chief Executive why SDCC does not operate a ‘Self Refer’ policy for homeless clients and are there any plans to introduce it in the near future?

REPLY:

All family placements in approved emergency accommodation are managed on a regional basis through Dublin City Council Centralised Placement Service (as the lead authority for Homeless Services) who operate a fair and transparent system of bed placement taking into account individual family circumstances such as documented medical/child protection issues, room availability & family size; alternative options available to families (as such family & friends) as well as time on the waiting list for emergency accommodation.  The CPS is the only party that can authorise self referral and they will only do so on the day the family become homeless.

While there are no plans to introduce self referal on a individual Council basis we are constantly seeking new facilities for the placement of families and will continue to do so.
