MOTION NO. 157
MOTION: Councillor C. King
That the plan will ensure that signage and advertisement within our historic villages is sensitive to architectural design and compliments same and further ensures that no inappropriate signage is permitted such as flashing lights and oversized signs.
REPORT:
The Retail Planning Guidelines were published by the Government in 2012 and have a companion Retail Design Manual document. This Retail Design Manual sets out to provide planning authorities, developers and designers with evidence-based quality principles to ensure that future planning for the retail sector is focused on the creation of vibrant, quality places. As stated in the guidelines, design that is inappropriate for its context, or that fails to realise the opportunity to improve the character and quality of an area or a site, should not be accepted. Signage is a key component in the document. The Draft Development Plan will be in accordance with the Guidelines and will incorporate the principles of the Retail Design Manual.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the motion is adopted.
