MOTION NO. 156

MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That this Council directs the CEO to incorporate signage strategies for retail premises across our villages  and town centres into our Development Plan.

REPORT:

The Retail Planning Guidelines published by the Government in 2012 and the companion Retail Design Manual document address retail signage. The Retail Design Manual sets out a number of quality principles to ensure that future planning for the retail sector is focused on the creation of vibrant, quality places. Design that is inappropriate for its context, or that fails to realise the opportunity to improve the character and quality of an area or a site, should not be accepted. The Draft Development Plan will address retail signage in accordance with the Guidelines and incorporate the principles of the Retail Design Manual.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the motion is adopted.
