MOTION NO. 173

MOTION: Councillor C. King

That the Plan will seek to provide opportunities for the expansion of Public Transport Services throughout the County that will link all of our Major Towns and Villages with particular reference to linking Clondalkin and Lucan, Tallaght and Lucan and Newcastle and Tallaght.

REPORT:

One of the core Policy Objectives of the County Development Plan will be to promote the ease of movement within, and access to South Dublin County, by integrating sustainable land-use planning with a diverse and high quality public transport system within the County. A number of Policy Objectives, Actions and Measures will be developed to underpin this core objective. Reference will also be made to planned projects such as the Clongiffen-Tallaght Swiftway project. Medium to long term corridors will also be protected for future public transport links such as the Metro West route (linking Tallaght, Clondalkin and Liffey Valley) and Lucan LUAS as well as an orbital route linking City-West, Grangecastle and Lucan (subject to discussions with the NTA). Any such proposal will however need to be discussed with the NTA prior to inclusion. South Dublin County Council has also committed, via its Corporate Plan 2015-2019, to prepare an Integrated County Mobility Plan and work with national agencies to provide for all modes of transport to create a more physically connected county.

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is adopted.
