MOTION NO. 222
MOTION: Councillor P. Donovan
That this Council directs the Chief Executive to consider support of fitness amongst our residents by introducing or incorporating signage to publish the “number of steps taken” and the KM for routes in our county frequented by a high number of walkers.
As an example, signage at Glendoher crossroads to read:
"To Rathfarnham Castle, 1.8KM, 5,000 steps"
REPORT:
One of the key attribute of any successful strategic walking and cycling route is that it is clearly legible. A key component of this is appropriate signage indicating direction, distance and, in some cases, travel time. Such an approach is encouraged by National Policy such as that contained in the National Cycle Manual. South Dublin County Council is also committed, via its Corporate Plan 2015-2019, to improve signage across the County.
Recommendation
It is recommended that this motion is adopted.
