MOTION NO. 115
MOTION: Councillor D. O'Brien
The County Development Plan will look at the best use for old industrial estates with a lot of vacant units and rezone the land if needed.
REPORT:
The South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2016-2022 will seek to support and facilitate economic activity across a range of sectors. Ensuring that enough land will be available to meet anticipated economic development requirements and that development occurs in a co-ordinated manner is central to the Development Plan.
An amendment of the EP1 zoning to promote redevelopment of older industrial areas that are adjacent to town centres and public transport nodes, for intensive enterprise and employment, residential or mixed use development would be consistent with the settlement strategy outlined above.
Physical enhancement programmes in key employment areas will be more appropriately addressed through the Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP). South Dublin County Council commenced preparation of the LECP in in November 2014 and it will be adopted by South Dublin County Council in 2015. The LECP will include analysis of the economic, local and community profile of the County. The LECP is required to set out objectives and actions to promote and support economic activity. Actions may include business support initiatives such as physical enhancement programmes in key employment areas.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the motion is adopted.
