Metal Bridge

That this Council directs the Chief Executive to include an appropriate action to require and facilitate the conservation and refurbishment of Metal Bridge across the River Liffey in Palmerstown.

REPORT:

Include a requirement in the Draft South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2016 – 2022 that sets out to address the issue of dereliction and promote restoration in relation to Protected Structures. This should include for the prioritisation of the refurbishment of Protected Structures within public ownership that could be used as part of a route provided under a permeability project such as the Guinness/Liffey Bridge (Metal Bridge over River Liffey) in Palmerstown (Map Ref. Number 006).

Insert a requirement into the Draft South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2016 – 2022 that seeks to promote and develop a Liffey Valley Park and greenway in collaboration with Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, Kildare County Council, the OPW, existing landowners and the local community that includes for the refurbishment of the Guinness/Liffey Bridge (Protected Structures Map Ref. Number 006) as part of a permeability route across the Liffey.

It is recommended that the motion is adopted.
