MOTION: Councillor S. Holland

The Travelling community are among the most marginalised in our society.

Halting sites are often placed in isolated areas, without any amenities nearby (eg Stocking Wood).

Going forward, when making provision for halting sites or housing, please make efforts to provide for the integration of members of the Travelling community into surrounding areas by placing them in areas with adequate schools, community centres, shopping & public transport.

REPORT:

The South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2016 – 2022 will include policies and objectives seek to ensure that the provision of traveller specific accommodation is carried out in accordance with the South Dublin County Council Traveller Accommodation Programme 2014 – 2018 (and any subsequent review), and that future traveller specific accommodation is located in proximity to community service and facilities.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Motion be adopted.
