MOTION NO. 336
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
That it shall be the policy of this Council to cover all or some of the energy costs of buildings under its control through the generation of electricity by wind or photovoltaic solar panels.
REPORT:
At a national level the energy targets set out in EU legislation have been translated into the National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) 2010 and the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) 2013-2020. The Government believes that the public sector should lead by example; as such an energy demand reduction target of 33% has been assigned to the public sector. The Council is committed to its responsibilities in this area and is partnered with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under its Municipal Energy Management Action Plan Programme. To date, the Council has installed a number of renewable energy technologies in buildings and facilities under its influence. A range of South Dublin Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) Actions across municipal housing stock, public buildings, fleet and facilities are also being carried out by a range of Council departments.
The Draft South Dublin County Council Development Pan 2016 – 2022 will focus on strategic planning matters facing the County across all sectors, including energy efficiency and renewable energy issues at a Countywide scale.
Recommendation
It is recommended that this motion be adopted.
