MOTION NO. 327
MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins
That this Council commits to using renewable energy wherever possible (e.g. for housing, community infrastructure, businesses, street lighting, etc) and to installing more energy efficient street lighting across the County and that this objective be reflected in the County Development Plan.
REPORT:
The renewable energy requirements for the construction of new residential and non-residential buildings are addressed in the current Building Regulations. The Draft South Dublin County Council Development Pan 2016 – 2022 will focus on strategic planning matters facing the County, including energy efficiency and renewable energy issues at a Countywide scale. The Council is currently involved in a partnership of the four Dublin local authorities and the City of Dublin Energy Management Agency (CODEMA) exploring energy efficiency opportunities available in the public lighting sector. A range of South Dublin Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) Actions across municipal housing stock, public buildings, fleet and facilities are also being carried out by a range of Council departments.
Recommendation
It is recommended that this motion be adopted.
