QUESTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin
To ask the Chief Executive to provide a clear guide detailing what aspects of water services Councillors can request the Council to deal with directly and what aspects require Councillors to deal with Irish Water and to explain where responsibility for roads and water services overlaps and how councillors should process requests for water related works such as drain clearing and surface water floods?
REPLY:
Irish Water is the now the Water Authority for all matters associated with water and (foul) wastewater in Ireland. It is responsible for:
Accordingly queries in relation to these matters should be directed to Irish Water.
Queries from individual councillors are dealt with by Irish Water via the dedicated Local Representative Support Desk which has been set up for this purpose. The following communication mechanisms have been established by Irish Water:
Local Authorities including South Dublin County Council retain responsibility for:
Accordingly queries in relation to these matters should be directed to the Council as it retains responsibilities in these areas. Roads continues to maintain and replace damaged road gullies and to deal with local instances of surface water flooding. Water Services retain responsibility for more significant flood mitigation/flood risk management matters.
