QUESTION NO. 18
QUESTION: Councillor P. Donovan
"To ask the Chief Executive if there are plans to deploy more traffic speed signs in our area similar to the recent installations on the N81 at Spawell. Please also confirm if we can review with our Gardaí any changes/improvements to driver behaviour following the installation of these speed signs?"
REPLY:
Speed detection signs are to be installed at 8 locations in the County as part of the Council's contribution to the Casualty Reduction Strategy Developed by the Garda authorities and the other Dublin authorities. The locations were identified as speeding blackspots by the Gardai in the SDCC areas. It is hoped that the installation will reduce the speed at these locations and they will be reviewed by the Gardai annually. The eight locations were as follows
1) Ballycullen Rd (50kph) Northbound
2)Firhouse Rd ( near Green Acres) 50kph Eastbound
3)Dodder Park Rd (50kph) eastbound east of Rathfarnham Road
4)R137 (old N81) at Spawell (60kph) citybound
5)R137 (old N81) At Cheeverstown house citybound
6)R136 Grange castle Rd north of Griffeen Rd 50kph northbound
7)R136 Grange Castle Rd south of St Lomans Rd 50kph south bound
8)R148 (old N4) at Service station Palmerston 60kph City bound
In addition 2 further locations have been identified in the Rathfarnham area at Lower Dodder Road ( west of Rathfarnham road) and Ballyboden Road south of Willsbrook Road junction road and these will be installed shortly.
It should be noted that we have installed temporary speed detection on Lower Dodder Road to assess the impact of the ramps at this location. These will be relocated to their permanent location on Dodder Park Road (see 2 above) as soon as practicable.
