Taximeter Areas and Taxi Fares Consultation

REPORT:

The Commission for Taxi Regulation (Commission) was established by the Taxi Regulation Act 2003.   Following the publication of two consultation papers in relation to developing a new National Code of Regulation for Taxis, Hackneys and Limousines in Ireland, the Commission now proposes to put in place a new fare structure and rate for taxis and new taximeter areas throughout the County.

Consultation Paper No. III, entitled 'Taximeter areas and taxi fares' has been distributed to the members.

Section 6 summarises a number of questions, previewed in earlier sections, which may help the members in considering the content of a submission which must be received by the Commission on or before 19th December 2005.

Heretofore all matters relating to Taxi and Hackneys were dealt with by Dublin City Council as the geographical county of Dublin comprised one Taxi meter area.

Any views expressed by the members will be forwarded to the Commission.
