QUESTION NO. 2

QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine

To ask the Chief Executive for an update on plans for Spring Clean week?

REPLY:

The annual National Spring Clean takes place from 1st April to 30th April. This month long initiative, run by An Taisce, is supported by South Dublin County Council and encourages schools, residents groups and community groups to organise a clean up in their area. The initiative is promoted by the Council through the Greentimes schools Newsletter which goes to every school in the County, on www.sdcc.ie,  www.socialcredits.ie  and social media.

South Dublin County Council has already contacted An Taisce in order to prepare for the April initiative.

Groups can register with An Taisce at www.nationalspringclean.org and receive a free clean up kit. The kit includes advice and information on organising a clean up, promotional materials, plastic bags for recycables and litter and tabards.  Groups should include the date of their clean up and a suitable collection location when they register. An Taisce then contacts each Local Authority with a list of registered clean ups and the Local Authority collects the bags of waste following each clean up.

Extra clean up materials can be requested from the Social Credits Section.
