QUESTION NO. 20
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
To ask the Chief Executive to present a report on the operation of the Council's emergency Christmas services; will he confirm the number of calls received from the public in that regard and will he also confirm if he has any plans to change the system next Christmas?
REPLY:
In advance of the offices closing on the 24th December and re- opening on Friday 2nd January, notices were placed on the Council website and telephony systems advising members of the public that the offices were closed during this period. Additional information was also provided regarding the Council’s Emergency/ Out of hour’s service number: 01- 4574907.
Each service department had a number of staff who were rostered over the holiday period to be ‘on call’ to deal with emergencies. Each service department defines in advance what calls are deemed an emergency and only these calls are forwarded by the call centre staff to the relevant council staff ‘on call’.
The number of calls received by the out of hours/emergency service is detailed below by category:
Drainage | 39 |
General | 17 |
Housing | 131 |
Parks | 11 |
Roads | 9 |
Water Services | 33 |
Call Outside of SDCC Jurisdiction | 15 |
Grand Total | 255 |
The Council has no plans at present to change this system for the Christmas/New Year Arrangements 2015/2016.
