QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner

To ask the Chief Executive what steps are being taken to address the problem of so called joyriding which seems to be re appearing in the Clondalkin area?  Allied to this is the problem of scramblers or quads being driven on the roads in parts of the Clondalkin area by uninsured and under age drivers.  These illegal activities are serious threat to safety of residents in the affected areas and are causing much distress.

REPLY:

The Council with its limited resources provides traffic calming in residential areas with the agreement of local councillors which attempts to control the speed of traffic in these areas and we will work with local communities and Gardai to examine the limited options available to the Council to address problems such as joyriding and the use of scramblers and quad bikes. This matter will be raised at the next Traffic Management Meeting on Thursday 22nd where the Garda authorities are in attendance. Unfortunately the Council does not have enforcement powers in relation to joyriding however, should specific instances be reported to us we will bring them to the attention of the Garda authorities
