MOTION NO. 7
MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins
That this Committee recommends that the development of a park in Newcastle be prioritised by the Council.
REPORT:
Newcastle has no large park in terms of a Regional or Neighbourhood Park. The Local Area Plan approved by the Council on the 12th November 2012 includes for a Village Park of approximately 6 Hectares size. The land for this park adjacent to the Ballynakelly development is currently under the control of Receivers and Liquidators acting for NAMA. Some discussion has taken place on the development of this park but the focus of the NAMA agents at present is on the upgrading of the housing fabric and associated public realm. When the discussion on the park takes place the Elected Members will be informed of progress on the matter.
A location map is included with this report for clarity.
