MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

That the Chief Executive present a report on the operation of the school warden scheme in the Clondalkin area.  I am aware of one challenging location that is without a warden since September and I believe that there are similar issues elsewhere.

REPORT:

The Council has 91 approved locations for the operation of a school warden service. There are currently 73 permanent school wardens employed by the Council. However, due to illness, 4 of these wardens are unavailable for duty. The Council also has a panel of 17 relief wardens to cover 22 locations on a priority needs basis. Unfortunately, this results in a number of crossings without the assistance of a school warden.

The locations in the Clondalkin without cover are:
Nangor Road (double crossing) 1 vacant warden.
Coldcut Road (double crossing) 1 vacant warden.
Station Road
Monastery Road (library). Warden due back Monday 19th January.

Late last year the Council advertised for the formulation of a new panel of relief warden and following interviews 20 applicants were successful. Medicals are currently being arranged and it is envisaged that these wardens will be available for duty in February.
