QUESTION NO.4
QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine
"To ask the Chief Executive Officer for an update regarding the units at SJOG and urge a speedy resolution to enable them be occupied".
REPLY:
The joint development at Cookstown between Respond Housing, St John of Gods and SDCC provided for 208 units of housing. St John of Gods provided 69 x 1 bed units as part of this development. 21 of these units are let and fully occupied. However the development was designed in an era when congregated settings was the norm and the provision of carers would have been possible. 48 of these units now fall into that category and are not possible to use in their existing format. SJOG have been in discussion with Respond, HSE, NCBI and Peamount around the de-congregation of their facilities within South Dublin and how these 48 units might be reconfigured to assist that programme.
A proposal to has now been forwarded to the Council for our views and support. It proposes to reduce the number of units from 48 to 24 in a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed units which will meet the needs identified in their discussions.
The reconfiguration will need approval of the Department and the proposal has been forwarded to them for sanction.
