QUESTION NO 6.

QUESTION: Councillor E. Higgins

To ask the Chief Executive to provide a report on funding opportunities available for the re-development of a pitch at the hugely successful football club Peamount United, Aylmer Road, Newcastle, Co. Dublin?

REPLY:

The Council has a long track record of working with and assisting football clubs and all sporting organisations across the county including the Peamount United Football Club.

The Community Development Team, the Sports Office and the FAI Development Officers have all worked with and supported the Football Club and will continue to do so.

The costs of re-developing the Football Clubs pitch would  likely  be substantial and in the current climate and provisions within the Council's budgets it would not be possible for the Council to provide the necessary finance for such a project. However a new round of Sports Capital Funding has been announced by Department of Transport Tourism & Sport for later this year and the Football Club should be advised to investigate and prepare for this as a possible source of funding for such re-development.
