QUESTION NO.5

QUESTION: Councillor C. King

"To ask the Chief Executive Officer to report on the timeframe for the implementation of the final phase of the Cushlawn refurbishment programme and is he confident that phase one window replacements can be included in the application for funding to correct the recognised disaster that was the phase one window replacement and can the Chief Executive Officer make a statement on the matter?".

REPLY:

A feasability study of the phase 4 refurbishment project at Cushlawn Estate,  involving about 47 dwellings,  is in the final stages of preparation by the County Architect.

When completed, the study will will sent to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, seeking approval to go to tender and an allocation of funding for the scheme. Such projects normally receive 90% state support.

It is not proposed to include funding in respect of a replacement window scheme in respect of Phase 1 of the Cushlawn Refurbishment Scheme.  The Council is aware that the condition of some of the windows,  which were upgraded about 10 years ago,  has deteriorated but it is recommended that any tenant who is experiencing problems of this nature should request the council to grade their windows with a view to inclusion in the ongoing window replacement programme.
