SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

MOTION NO.10
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
"That the Chief Executive reviews Council policy regarding how it deals with offers by schools and community groups in Lucan and Palmerston to voluntarily cut overgrown shrubbery by looking at how such clippings could be picked up outside office hours, which is required so as not to interfere with pedestrian access to schools, or else through the provision of temporary storage units; and in particular to report on how a request by Scoil Mhuire GNS Lucan to arrange an out of hours or weekend collection of overhanging shrubbery obstructing parents and children during sunny weather in September, as requested by this Councillor by telephone and subsequently through the internal membersnet system, does not appear to have been followed up (at time of submitting this motion at end November), much to the dismay of the caretaker involved and the community volunteers willing to help with the cutting and sweeping of such material into piles.
REPORT:
Collecting materials out of normal working hours has increased cost implications for the council and would form part of the review. The policy in relation to the collection of green material will be examined in the overall context of the Public Realm Schedule review and a report will be brought back to the Area Committee.
The specific request from Scoil Mhuire GNS will be investigated.
