QUESTION: Councillor C. King

"To ask the Chief Executive Officer to report on the number of bank owned boarded up houses there are in the Tallaght area and to specify the time period they have been in such a state of vacancy?"

REPLY:

A meeting was held with all the banks with a view to informing them of our concerns in relation to vacant houses .  They made the point that they did not always know when houses were vacated by owners and in some instances they then had to take proceedings to get possession of them.  Contact details for their property managers to whom we might bring the vacant houses to their attention have been obtained and contact is made with them if a private house is vacated within our housing estates

There are currently 18 properties being investigated under Derelict Sites in the Tallaght Area.  In these cases, Banks are reluctant to disclose information for data protection reasons so we can not be conclusive on the number of these properties which are Bank Owned.  Of these cases, 8 cases have been identified as Bank Owned in the instances where the Bank has approached the Council.  These approaches were prompted where the property was under investigation under Derelict sites or the banks needed access to the properties which were secured by the Council, in the interests of estate management.
