QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

"To ask the Chief Executive what plans SDCC have for providing homeless accommodation in the Rathfarnham area, specifically in the Fonthill area.  What type of accommodation is being planned and can the Chief Executive give assurances that there will be consultation with residents and proper management of the facility?"

REPLY:

The owner of a house, that was originally used to accommodate homeless families in the area, has offered to lease it to the Council subject to agreeing terms.  The Council are currently examining the property to see if it is up to the required standards and/or what works might be necessary to bring it to such standards.

It is expected that this examination will be completed in the coming weeks.  At that stage it will be possible to inform a decision on reaching terms in respect of a lease.

If it is possible to reach agreement in respect of a lease it is intended to provide emergency accommodation to families in the house.  It is expected that the number of families provided with accommodation will be in the region of 5.

Following the completion of the examination of the house a meeting with the local elected members and residents will be organised.
