QUESTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

To ask the Chief Executive to provide a detailed report on the costs incurred through the use of the services of the Coroner over the last 3 years (€450,000 budgeted this year) including when and for exactly what SDCC have used services of the Coroner?

REPLY:

South Dublin County Council are invoiced quarterly for costs relating to the Coroners Shared Service for the four Dublin Local Authorities. The costs are allocated on the basis of the population in each of the Local Authority areas in accordance with the latest Central Statistics Office Census figures. For the apportioned costs in 2014, South Dublin County Councils portion based on population has been 20.83%.

The overall apportioned costs in 2012 were € 345,080.60, in 2013 were € 356,061.74 and in 2014 € 344,967.84.

The cost of the service includes items such as Wages and Salaries, toxicology fees, post-mortem fees, undertaker costs, Deputy State Pathologists fees, and inquest fees, as well as administration costs of telephone bills, stationary and printing and gas and electricity.
