QUESTION NO. 22
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
To ask the Chief Executive to report to the Council on his plans to attract tourists to the South Dublin Council area in 2015 and to confirm what initiatives are proposed in that regard?
REPLY:
Following the formation of a Tourism Interests Working Group in September, the Council initiated a tender process, informed by the Group, for the engagement of tourism consultants to develop a strategy and action plan for tourism development in the County.
Following this process Tourism Development International have been engaged and are now embarking upon research and consultation with the Council, the Working Group and the local tourism and hospitality industry and stakeholders in the development of an action plan to identify opportunities and actions for tourism development in the County.
Progress on the Strategy will be reported to, and informed by, the Working Group and the Economic, Enterprise and Tourism SPC.
The strategy will inform the future development of ongoing projects currently funded by the Council including village schemes, signage, and events and festivals to enhance County promotion and attract tourist vistors to the County.
