QUESTION NO. 26
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
To ask the Chief Executive to congratulate the Council's social inclusion office on the success of the recent Social Inclusion Programme; will he present a report on that programme and confirm plans being made for such initiatives in 2015?
REPLY:
The Social Inclusion Unit organised in excess of 50 events throughout the week to highlight the positive work carried out by this Council to promote social inclusion and build positive, healthy communities in our County. The week provides the Unit with an opportunity to develop a sense of well-being and inclusion for all members of our communities.
Social Inclusion Week is a declaration of intent and recognition that everyone has a role to play in our community. Today’s societies are more diverse than ever. This week provided us with a platform to promote the ongoing work of our Social Inclusion Unit to a broader audience.
There was over 200 people at the launch of Social Inclusion Week on Monday 17 November 2014 and 250 Active Retired enjoyed the annual tea dance in the Red Cow Inn on 20 November.
A musical evening with GLORIA (Dublin Lesbian and Gay Choir) was a great success in the Civic Theatre, Tallaght on Sunday 23 November 2014 raising awareness for Marriage Equality. The grand finale of Social Inclusion Week “Social Inclusion through the Performing Arts” was a great success with a full house and over 150 participants performed in the show.
All the events organised during the week were well attended and enjoyed by all. Social Inclusion Week 2015 will take place from Monday 16 November 2015 to Sunday 22 November 2015.
