QUESTION NO. 33
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
To ask the Chief Executive to look at a yearly awards system that acknowledges the work of tidy towns in the areas, local sports heroes and general achievements for the whole of SDCC area. What if any plans are in place for this for 2015?
REPLY:
The Council fully acknowledges and recognises the tremendous work carried out all across the county by voluntary, community groups and activists and supports this work in many practical ways. Among the supports provided are the various Community Grants Scheme and other financial assistance measures, as well as the knowledge and advice provided every day by the Community Services Team, the Social Inclusion Unit, the Sports Office and many other areas of the Council's operations.
Consideration of the matters raised in the question has been prioritised in the draft work programme for the Social and Community Strategic Policy Committee and in this regard it has been agreed that a full review of both existing and proposed grant / aid programmes will be carried out by the Strategic Policy Committee as a matter of urgency. When the Strategic Policy Committee have completed their deliberations, a full report will be presented to the members of the Council for approval.
