QUESTION NO. 5
QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
"To ask the Chief Executive for a report on the safety measures and other issues requested by the residents of the Newcastle Road during their recent deputation meeting?"
REPLY:
Newcastle Road is in a rural location and it is proposed to upgrade this road, introduce footpaths and public lighting as part of the R120 upgrade scheme. The council has not identified a source of funding for this scheme and no funding is available for partial provision of the proposed upgrade or elements therein.
The road is subject to a 60 km/h speed limit. Slow markings are provided at the bends together with reflective road studs. Warning signs and an overtaking prohibition are in place and will be renewed as required.
A speed detection sign will be installed at a suitable location. This sign indicates the appropriate speed limit and also shows the approaching vehicle speed.
