QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

"To ask the Chief Executive to outline what date if any has been set for the holding of the Palmerstown name change plebiscite and how will this be publicised?"

REPLY:

A motion to conduct a plebiscite to change the name of Palmerston Village to Palmerstown Village was approved at the Council Meeting held on 9th December 2013.

Advertisements were published in the Lucan Echo and Lucan Gazette (9th & 10th Oct respectively) giving notice that a list of qualified electors for the purposes of conducting the plebiscite had been prepared and available for public inspection for a period of three weeks.  The list was available at the Council Offices in Tallaght and Clondalkin, the public library in Stewarts Hospital, and online at www.sdcc.ie.  The list comprised those electors registered on the live Register of Electors and the rated occupier of premises within the geographical area as specified in the motion.  The closing date for receipt of submissions in relation to the list was 31st October 2014.

There was one submission seeking clarification on the impact/effects of voting in favour of the name change.

Following the Members approval of the list of Qualified Electors at the November Council meeting, ballot papers are being printed. It is intended that ballot papers will be sent out shortly and the return date is expected to be 17th December, and date for count of returned ballot papers will be 19th December. All Councillors will be notified of these dates once confirmed.

The result of the Plebiscite will be brought to the January Council meeting.
