MOTION NO. 11
MOTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin
Cathaoirleach's Buisiness
That this Committee requests the Chief Executive to provide a report for discussion at the Area Committee on illegal bonfires in the Clondalkin Area this year including the number and cost of such bonfires and the collection of bonfire material in both public spaces and on property managed by the Housing Department.
REPORT:
Halloween 2014 fell on Friday 31st October 2014. Bonfire related activity commenced approximately three weeks in advance of Halloween with the first reports of material gathered received from the public via the Customer Care system being logged on the 9th October 2014. A total of 180 customer care enquiries were logged in the customer care system by close of business on 31st October reporting bonfire materials at locations around the county.
There were approximately 343 bonfires across the county this Halloween. This represents a 9% reduction on the number of bonfires compared to 2013. The clean-up in the Clondalkin area is currently on-going and is being undertaken by the Corkagh Depot (15 bonfires) and the Grange Depot (130 bonfires).
The 2013 clean-up cost was approximately €50,000 for the county and as we have approximately 30 fewer bonfires there should be a slight reduction in the clean-up costs.
The attached map shows the locations where bonfires took place in the Clondalkin area.
