MOTION NO.3
MOTION: Councillor M. Duff
Cathaoirleach's Business
That this Area Committee calls on the Chief Executive to give detailed costs of removing the utility boxes located at the Old Bawn junction and relocating them to within 50 metres of their current location.Could the Chief Executive Officer also make a report to this Committee detailing if there are any recorded issues with the hedging that was planted to hid these utility boxes and if there are any traffic safety issues associated with these hedges.
REPORT:
Six of the junction boxes at the location in question at Old Bawn are the property of Eircom who have provided a cost estimate of €100,000 for relocating their property. Further cost would arise if the other equipment were to be relocated also, however exact costs for this are not available at present. A further additional cost would arise from the need for reinstatement of the ground after any works are completed. An estimate of total cost for all of these works combined would be expected to exceed €120,000.
There are no issues to report with regard to the hedge planted earlier in the year to screen these junction boxes. The road maintenance section has reported that the planted hedge is not impacting on traffic or pedestrian safety.
