MOTION NO. 10

MOTION: Councillor J. Graham

That this Committee supports the Food Cloud initiative and that the Management write to all major food retail outlets in Clondalkin asking them to take part in the initiative.

REPORT:

FoodCloud connects businesses that have too much food with charities that have too little, and has developed a platform that makes it easy for charities to get notifications of donations of food that are available in their communities.

Foodcloud uses an App and website through which businesses and charities register their interest in participation. 

Businesses upload details of their surplus food and specify a time for collection.   A text message is then sent out to notify the charities in the community of the donation that is available.

A charity can choose to accept the donation and must collect it from the donating business within the time period specified.

If the motion is passed the sentiments of the members will be referred to Foodcloud with a view to them contacting the major food outlets in Clondalkin advising them of the initiative.
