MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

That the Chief Executive indicates how much was spent repairing the burst pipe and addressing the floods at Alpine / Ashwood. What will be the cost to repair damages for residents, will Irish Water repay this and has the council recouped the costs from Irish Water yet?

REPORT:

The approximate direct cost of repairing the burst watermain was €14,000 which is fully funded by Irish Water through the Service Level Agreement. There will be additional costs associated with reinstatement works.

The cost of repair of damages for residents is a matter for Irish Water to address for the residents directly affected.

Currently, Irish Water have indicated that they only have the resources to respond to motions/resolutions passed by the Full Council at their monthly meetings. It is not possible to provide responses to Council Questions from the 31 local authorities at their respective meetings. Queries from individual councillors are dealt with via the dedicated Local Representative Support Desk which has been set up for this purpose.  For this reason, if a councillor wishes to progress a query, Irish Water advises him/her to submit same directly to the Local Representative Support Desk where it will be dealt with appropriately. This can be done via a dedicated elected member email localrepsupport@water.ie   or calling 1890 278 278 and asking for the Local Representative Support Desk.
