QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

To ask the Manager to provide a report on the provision of extra car parking spaces in Boot Rd/Rockfield Drive estate following on from the deputation meeting by the residents earlier this year. The report should outline possible options for additional spaces and cost of such spaces for consideration of the members.

REPLY:

Following the deputation meeting and site walk with Boot Road residents’ association the primary concern was to correctly sign the roads in the estate. The layout of the estate is not immediately apparent and the numbering on Boot Road and Rockfield Drive forms a continuous system. The signs have gone through several iterations in their design so that a scheme favourable to the residents will now be installed.

With respect to parking in the estate many, but not all, properties in Boot Road and Rockfield Drive have made a substantial investment and constructed drive ways in order to accommodate their private vehicles within their own property. The roads are narrow in the estate and permit a single car to pass a parked car on one side. Residual parking occurs on the road and edges of the green areas. The Council have no plans to provide additional on street parking at this location. In many cases the option exists for residents to construct a driveway to their property as they desire.
