HEADED ITEM NO. 3

Installation of Cycle Track from Scholarstown Roundabout to St. Colmcilles National School.

There is currently no funding allocated to construction of cycle tracks on Scholarstown Road.

In order to obtain funding South Dublin County Council have carried out the following actions:

A case was made to the National Transport Authority regarding the schools need for cycle facilities during the summer months.

The National Transport Authority agreed to extend funding and South Dublin County Council have commissioned consulting engineers to examine and design as required, the provision of cycling facilities north and south from Knocklyon Road from Orlagh Roundabout to the school.

The funding covers topographical survey, slit trenches (which are currently underway) and detailed design. It is envisaged that the Stage 1 and 2 (preliminary and detailed design) of the cycling facilities will be complete by year end.

Once the detailed design is completed a further application for funding to the National Transport Authority will be made for tender and construction phases.
