QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
To ask the Chief Executive to report to the Council on any contacts he has had with the Department of Environment and Local Government regarding the recent announcement by Government that funding is to be made available for social housing and will he also confirm if he is working on plans to respond to such funding?
REPLY:
SDCC is currently awaiting details and guidance from DECLG on the budget announcements and the proposed housing strategy which is expected to be launched over the next couple of weeks.
The Council currently has 260 Units over a number of proposed developments with the Department of the Environment Community and Local Government for approval. These proposals have been through the Part 8 process and approved by the Council. the Council is currently in the process of identifying other suitable infill sites. It is hoped to increase the number of new units of social housing with the Department up to approximately 500 for approval within the first quarter of 2015.
