MOTION NO.12
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
Cathaoirleach's Business
"That the Chief Executive, in responding to an upsurge of complaints from neighbouring estates in recent days about antisocial behaviour in Willsbrook Park in the runup to Halloween, with people with small children being verbally abused while out for a walk, an increase in broken bottles and general intimidation, bins being ransacked for bonfires etc; and noting that there were serious assaults some years ago when the issue was let get out of hand; reviews its policy and operation to further discourage such behaviour; investigates a capital investment to close off the park during hours of darkness whilst retaining a narrow access between Esker Lane and Esker Park via the pedestrian bridge; investigates CCTV installation as an option and gives a costed report in this regard; and liaises with An Garda Siochana to seek additional visible patrols, especially the very effective Garda Mountain Bike Units; and if he will make a statement on the matter.”
REPORT:
The Council is not aware of any particular upsurge in anti-social behaviour in Willsbrook Park or any recent assaults. However, the Gardaí have advised that they have recently put a night time patrol in place in this area on an on going basis. The Council will discuss the issues raised with the Gardaí and possible measures that can be taken to support the policing of the park.
