QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask the Chief Executive for a report on the timeframe for implementation of options to revise junction arrangements at the Newcastle Road/Hillcrest Road junction in order to seek to improve traffic flow at Newcastle Road?"

REPLY:

The Council is anxious to trial a mini roundabout at this junction and the detail design is being prepared. Of particular concern in this regard relates to pedestrian and school children crossing in the narrow confines of the junction which is being examined at present. A number of other options are also being considered including left in and left out from Hillcrest. The members will be kept informed of progress.
