MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

"That the necessary arrangements be initiated to extinquish the right of way at the bottom of Liffey Close Lucan as per petition (supplied) of the residents as this is a most dangerous pedestrian exit of serious concern to parents of young children in the area and a source of anti-social behaviour including house breaking in this relatively quite cul de sac."

REPORT:

The closure of the right of way at this location is not recommended. The right of way has already been limited to pedestrian access only and serves a permeability link to other areas in residential community as well as shortening access to other community facilities and encourages modal shift to more sustainable modes of transport. The safety of the exit can be improved by the provision of suitable barriers to prevent children getting direct access from the Cul de Sac to the busy road. The matter of anti social behaviour can be addressed by other means and we will work with the local community to prepare a suitable and safer alternative to closure.
