QUESTION NO. 14

QUESTION: Councillor E. O'Brien

"To ask the Chief Executive for the current status of a conservation report commissioned relating to the site of the old cemetery at Mill Lane, Palmerstown?"

REPLY:

The Conservation Report which has been completed has been fully assessed. The information and recommendations have been considered by the Councils Architectural Conservation Officer. A number of tasks have been outlined in the report as part of the conservation method statement included to safeguard the Protected Structure and the site which is a Recorded Monument. Maintenance recommendations arising from this report are to form part of a programme of works to be agreed between the Councils Architectural Conservation Officer and Environmental Services Public Realm Section, budget and schedules permitting.

The works to consolidate the structure and preserve the graveyard will be prioritised and will be dependant on funding as a long-term programme of works.  The recommendations and method statement provided in the Conservation Report will form the basis for any further work to the Church and within the site of the graveyard.  All works are subject to the approval of the Councils Architectural Conservation Officer and National Monuments Section DAHG given the status of the site.
