QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
"To ask the Chief Executive for an update of the likely period planned for the holding of the planned plebiscite for the name change from "Palmerston" to "Palmerstown" in the village area north of the N4, given that the consultation process on the register of electors for same is due to be completed in a couple of days time; and if she will make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
A motion to conduct a plebiscite to change the name of Palmerston Village to Palmerstown Village was approved at the Council Meeting held on 9th December 2013.
Advertisements were published in the Lucan Echo and Lucan Gazette (9th & 10th Oct respectively) giving notice that a list of qualified electors for the purposes of conducting the plebiscite had been prepared and available for public inspection for a period of three weeks. The list is currently available at the Council Offices in Tallaght and Clondalkin, the public library in Stewarts Hospital, and online at www.sdcc.ie. The list comprises those electors registered on the live Register of Electors and the rated occupier of premises within the geographical area as specified in the motion. The closing date for receipt of submissions is 31st October 2014.
The list of qualified electors will be presented to the November Council meeting for formal adoption having regard to any submissions received within the specified timeframe. Once the list is adopted arrangements will be put in place to conduct the plebiscite without any undue delay.
