QUESTION NO.11
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
"To ask the Chief Executive if he would detail actions he proposes to improve the image of Tallaght Village and will he detail plans for further works in that regard?"
REPLY:
Tallaght Village is included in the 9 traditional villages of South Dublin County Council identified for the Villages Initiative. This is a programme of design and works intended to improve the villages in social, economical and environmental performance. It is intended to confirm these villages as the centres of their adjoining communities by improving connectivity, permeability and way-finding signage, increasing football and activity in each.
The environmental activity of landscape, public realm and quality of buildings and shopfronts will be improved through design, capital projects and grant-aid. Support is available for Tidy Towns, community projects and festivals, to grow community support.
An overall system of pedestrian/cycle way-finding signage has been designed for South Dublin and will be tested as a pilot project in Tallaght village in the coming months. This will also include heritage-map panels. An upcoming tourism strategy will include heritage walks and maps for the 9 villages, including Tallaght.
Part 8 consultation process for a number of paving/public realm projects as already discussed at Council Area Committee level for Tallaght Village will be advertised and commenced in the coming weeks. These works will centre on the paving linking the village end of High Street to the small plaza/sculpture at the Old Greenhills Road area.
