QUESTION NO. 12
QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner
To ask the Chief Executive to ensure that the Civic Offices and the Plaza in front of them are presented in a manner that befits their central location and their function. The following items need to be addressed:- Litter, Graffitti on the art installation, on the benches and on the windows, Weeds and ivy in the beds adjacent to the building, Shrubs in those beds unkempt, Litter blowing down onto inaccessible Camac banks, (if long promised grids were fitted to railings this could be addressed), Banners and posters on railings, in contravention of poster ban, Sign at Entrance broken (new one promised ages ago), Banner for Creche tatty and needs to be upgraded, Weeds and moss in crevices of paving?
REPLY:
The shrubbery and planters at the Civic Offices in Clondalkin have been maintained in the past by a combination of local residents, Tidy Towns volunteers and the former Parks Department. While this arrangement manages to keep the area under control it has become apparent that the informal system does break down on occasions and requires additional intervention to bring it back into shape. The area was inspected recently and was found to be in good condition. To ensure that this continues the shrubbery and planters will be added to the Public Realm schedule of works and will be pruned and weeded as the need arises throughout the year. The general paved area will also be added to the Public Realm Schedule for attention in relation to weeds and moss. It should be noted that at the time of inspection it was in good condition.
The plaza in front of the civic offices is regularly cleaned as part of the Clondalkin handcart route. When recently inspected there was a small amount of litter present and arrangements have been made to remove this.
The graffiti on the art installation and benches will also be addressed as part of the maintenance of the plaza area which is being added to the Public Realm Schedule.
Following the recent renovations to the Clondalkin Civic Offices, the Council has commenced the process for a review of the signage at the facility in accordance with the Council's branding guidelines and our obligations under the Official Languages Act 2003. The signage for the building will also need to reflect the new and existing tenants of the building including; South Dublin Childcare Committee Ltd., Clondalkin MABS, the Legal Aid Board and Fonthill Lodge Day-Care.
