MOTION NO.16
MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner
That this Committee supports the immediate opening of a pedestrian gap to enable residents from Alpine and Ashwood to access the Fonthill Road without having to climb over a wall which is topped with a fence, as we pointed out during debates on this issue over the last few years, this is a serious accident waiting to happen and failure to open a pedestrian gap, with or without a cycle path, is unthinkable.
REPORT:
Following on from the approval of the Council in January 2014 to the proposals for cycling and walking paths to connect Alpine and Ashwood open spaces to the Fonthill Road a submission is being prepared in order to secure funding for the proposal to be implemented.
It is therefore premature to consider opening the access onto the Fonthill Road until this funding has been secured and to ensure that the entire proposal is constructed to the same standard. The Elected Members will be updated on progress in this matter.
